What would your 2023 mission trip look like?

Your train pulls up to the station platform and you step into a sea of people. The heat hits you like a wall, and as you slowly take in the sights, sounds and smells, you notice the astounding variety of people from different faiths and walks of life. Men peddle bottles of water. Women and children beg for money and food. Not far from you is an impressive structure where people seem to be praying—a shrine to a Muslim holy man. It’s all a bit much to take in. Welcome to the city.

As you leave the train station and begin the taxi ride to where you’ll be staying, you are surprised that it appears as if you are traveling through a Muslim-majority country. A quick Google search on your phone reveals that this country is in fact home to one of the largest populations of Muslims in the world, and this city is  considered an influential center for Islam in the country. You leave your taxi and walk through a narrow street away from the main road, centuries-old brick walls towering on either side of you. It’s cooler, darker and quieter now. But there are still people everywhere, and you realize that back here is where life really happens—off the beaten path, through the maze of alleys that make up the city. And this is where you will make your home for the rest of the summer.

The Spirit is working and preparing the hearts of people here to love and follow Jesus—you have a part in that plan. You are invited to come as followers of Jesus and guests of this culture to learn, grow, love and pray.
