Letter to Parents

THE EDGE November 03, 2015
Dear Parents,

Greetings from Orlando, Florida!  I'm writing to introduce you to Pioneers, and more specifically, the Edge program that your son or daughter may be serving with this summer.

Pioneers was founded in 1979 with the purpose of sending career missionaries overseas to plant churches in countries where the church is non-existent or not able to reproduce itself.  Today, we have nearly 3,200 personnel on the field in more than 100 countries.

The Edge is a summer ministry of Pioneers specifically designed to give young adults a 8-to-12-week exposure to life on the field as a career missionary. Our hope is that Edge participants will grow in their passion for God, view of the world and understanding of themselves as they learn and serve.

As an Edge staff, we communicate regularly with the teams overseas, process applications, coach students through support raising, coordinate travel schedules, purchase travel insurance, prepare students for their summer abroad and pray for them as they go. After completing an orientation program, each Edge team is received by long term workers who oversee their field internship for 6 to 10 weeks. Each team then returns to Orlando for a debrief program, which completes the summer experience.

As a mission, we believe strongly in the participation of the local church and value interaction with the parents of our short termers.  I invite you to explore this website and learn more about the Edge program.

Should you have any questions about Pioneers, the Edge, this summer or missions in general, please don't hesitate to contact us.

In closing, I want to reiterate our commitment to communicate with you.  Thank you for taking an active role in the lives of your sons and daughters—we appreciate you.  We look forward to seeing how God will work this summer!

For His Glory,
The Pioneers Edge Staff
